There’s no avoiding the giant leather-clad elephant in the room. This season fashion’s gone rogue with a modern ode to one of the most influential fashion statements of the 20th century – punk. I remember spotting ‘punk rockers’ as a youngin growing up in London. They were a little in your face, gelled mohawks, crazy piercings, customised leathers, metal and studs everywhere and DM boots made for pogoing.
As with most street movements, it’s considerably diluted in shock value over the last 30 years, Helen Mirren dyeing her hair pink, methinks was the final nail in the coffin. However, on the runways, alongside grunge, there’s been a stylish resurrection of punk-influenced fashion – thanks Burberry, Versace & Saint Laurent. Then there was the punk-themed Costume Institute Gala, peppered with the in your face affection for stylish metal, leather and then some.
Get inspired!

Punk’s an effortless look to go for when you want to make a mummy style statement for you and your tot. Babies in tartan or black always turn heads, and a mum in the clapping circle with fire truck red lips and studded boots will certainly raise eyebrows (a look I pulled off yesterday for MG slide time and a mum slowly backed out of the kids’ park).
Here’s some inspiration for stylish looks for you and your mini mes, so defiant, you’ll give Queen Style After Nine mum Gwen Stefani a run for her money.
